Travel Insurance – for all types of leisure travel

This travel insurance is ideal whether you are planning a short trip or going away for some time. It is easily adaptable to complement your home insurance, avoiding double insurance and letting you decide what level of travel cover you want.

With Europeiska’s travel insurance, several areas are covered as standard. The basic cover is determined by two things.

  • Whether you have home insurance.
  • If you are planning to be away for more than 45 days (in some cases, the limit is 60 days, please check your home insurance).

Basic cover and extensive cover

Medical care abroad is expensive, and without the right insurance, you have to pay for everything out of your own pocket. The travel insurance included in your home insurance often covers you only for 45 days (sometimes 60 days), and if you are planning to stay away for longer than that or if you don’t have any home insurance at all, it is important to make sure that you are covered should anything unexpected happen.

Basic cover
– always included

  • Medical care. If you fall ill or have an accident, we will cover the cost of medical care. We will also pay for any medicine, transport to and from hospitals and emergency dental care.
  • Liability insurance. If you are responsible for damage or injury, and a claim for damages is brought against you, we will cover the cost.
  • Legal cover If you find yourself involved in a dispute, we will cover you for the cost of hiring a lawyer.
  • Crisis therapy. If you are the victim of an assault, robbery or natural disaster, for example, we will reimburse any costs you incur.

Widen your cover

Expand your cover to include events outside your control. Here are a few examples of the additional cover we offer:

  •  Loss of personal possessions. Insure your property and receive compensation if, for example, your luggage is lost in transit or your mobile phone is stolen. You are covered throughout your journey, from when you leave your home until you return.
  • Natural disasters. A natural disaster is not only a real risk to survival, it can also cost you a lot of money. The additional cover reimburses the expense you incur in travelling to a safer location or finding new accommodation.
  • Delay. We will reimburse expenses incurred if you and/or your luggage are delayed during the outward or return journey. We will also reimburse any essential costs while you are waiting, e.g. the cost of food.
  • Return transport. If you fall ill and have to return home for continued care, you and a co-insured travelling companion will be reimbursed for the cost of changing your bookings or buying new tickets. This cover also applies if a close relative falls seriously ill.
  • Pregnancy. Extra cover for pregnant women. The additional cover allows you to travel up to week 32 of your pregnancy. If your baby is born prematurely while you are travelling, we will cover your costs. Important: before you purchase this policy, please check if the airline has special rules for pregnant women.
  • Invalidity and death. We will pay compensation for injuries which result in invalidity or compensation to surviving dependents in the event of your death

If you make short trips

If you are planning a short trip and already have home insurance, you will already have good basic cover. So rather than take out double insurance, your money will be better spent on improving your cover, e.g. to pay for a new trip should you fall ill and not be able to do what you had planned during your holiday.

If you have home insurance

Here are some examples of what the annual travel insurance includes:

  • New trip – Illness or accident: If you fall ill and are confined to bed for more than half your trip, and the trip is intended to last at least seven days, you and your co-travellers or your whole family will be entitled to a new trip. The same applies if you suffer an accident and, for example, are hospitalised.
  • New trip – Adding up sick days: The whole family will be entitled to a new trip. Under our Annual Travel Insurance, you add together the number of sick days during which you have been confined to bed. You will be entitled to a completely new trip if the total number of sick days adds up to more than half the number of travel days.
  • New travel – Unexpected events: Not all illness results in someone becoming confined to bed. But they can still prevent you from doing something you had planned to do. One example is if your children contract an ear infection and are not allowed to go swimming. Under the terms of our Annual Travel Insurance, you will also be entitled to a new trip if someone in your family falls ill and this interferes with the purpose of your trip.
  • Holiday problems.  You will receive compensation if extreme or unexpected events prevent you from doing what you had intended during your trip. Examples of such events include being unable to go swimming due to jellyfish, toxic algae bloom or shark warnings – or if extreme weather conditions prevent you from going skiing.
  • No excess – Medical care expenses: If you fall ill or suffer an accident during your trip and, for example, have to visit a doctor or purchase medicines, you will be reimbursed for expenses up to SEK 1500.
  • No excess – Excess relating to hire cars: When you hire a car on your trip, you must purchase insurance from the company you hire the car from. But although you have insurance cover, you may still find yourself seriously out of pocket if something happens. Under our Annual Travel Insurance, we will cover the excess up to SEK 10,000.
  • Trips cut short or extended. If your trip is cut short or extended by more than 12 hours, we will pay you a fixed amount of compensation. This is a real help if you are forced to take an extra day’s holiday due to a delay in your return flight.

If you don´t have home insurance

If your home insurance does include travel cover, you can purchase travel insurance which meets your exact needs. You can choose either basic cover or widened cover which includes, for example, personal possessions and compensation for delay.
