The Cayman Islands is administered as a British overseas territory consisting of the three islands of Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. The territory is located to the south of Cuba and to the northwest of Jamaica in the western Caribbean Sea. The territory was formed in 1962 when it was split from Jamaica. It is one of the world's largest financial centres and a well-known tax haven that has more registered businesses than it has people. 

Hälsa, sjukdomar och vaccination

Travellers are advised to consult a travel health specialist or general practitioner (GP) to obtain the latest information with regards to what vaccines are recommended about 4-8 weeks prior to departing for Cayman Islands. Make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines before your trip. The following vaccinations are recommended: measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis, polio and influenza. Travellers might also consider the vaccinations for Hepatitis B and rabies, according to the specifics of their travel.

The Cayman Islands have risk of ongoing Dengue and Chikungunya transmission. Risk is present throughout the country and year-round. Insect protection measures are essential.

Typhoid fever vaccination is recommended when going outside the areas usually visited by tourists such as traveling extensively in the interior of the country, for persons on working assignments in remote areas, or travellers visiting for extended periods of time.

Medical facilities on the Cayman Islands are of a good standard. The George Town hospital is relatively new with good facilities and many problems can be treated there. However, if serious injuries occur, patients will initially be treated on the Cayman Islands before being transferred to a more advanced hospital abroad, such as Miami.

Pass

Valid passports are required for entry into the Cayman Islands. These must be valid for at least 6 months after the intended date of departure. Passengers must present a valid return ticket to their country of departure.

Visum

Visas are not required for most nationalities with travellers allowed to stay in the country for up to six months.

However, salesmen attempting to gain business in the Cayman Islands do require a business visa. These can be acquired from the Department of Immigration.
