Grekland
Översikt
The Greek economy has shown signs of recovery in recent years following the ongoing economic crisis and associated political difficulties since 2007. Relatively high levels of protest activity remain, including from anarchist protest groups, leftist organisations and trade unions. There are also commonly strikes that can affect public transportation and other services.
Hälsa, sjukdomar och vaccination
Travellers are advised to consult a travel health specialist or general practitioner (GP) to obtain the latest information with regards to what vaccines are recommended about 4-8 weeks prior to departing for Greece. Make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines before your trip. The following vaccinations are recommended: measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis, polio and influenza.
Tap water is safe to drink in Greece.
Medical facilities are generally considered to be adequate, and some, particularly private clinics and hospitals in Athens and Thessaloniki, are of high standards. Public medical clinics, especially on the islands, may lack resources and provide inadequate care. Little English is spoken in these cases. Many patients are transferred from the provinces and islands to hospitals in Athens for more thorough treatment. The cost of such transfer, as well as all expenses in a private hospital, is charged directly to the patient.
Pass
A passport is required by all foreign nationals for entry into Greece, aside from those from the EU who hold a valid EU identity card. There are varying passport requirements dependent upon nationality; for example, citizens of the EU do not require extended passport validity beyond the date of departure, however other nationals require passports to be valid for three months. It is advised to contact the relevant authorities regarding entry to the country.
Visum
Citizens of the EU can remain in the country indefinitely without requiring visa documentation. Citizens of the US, Australia, and Canada, are allowed to stay in the country for up to 90 days without requiring a visa. Stays beyond 90 days will require additional confirmation, with citizens from North America and Australia needing to apply to the Consulate of Greece in their respective countries. Travellers from other countries should contact the nearest Greek diplomatic mission to confirm visa requirements.
Travellers can find information regarding which nationalities require a Schengen visa for entry into Greece at the European Commission Visa Policy website.
