Översikt

Guam is in the western Pacific Ocean and is an organised, unincorporated territory of the United States. It is one of five US territories with an established civilian government.

Hälsa, sjukdomar och vaccination

Travellers are advised to consult a travel health specialist or general practitioner (GP) to obtain the latest information with regards to what vaccines are recommended about 4-8 weeks prior to departing for Guam. Make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines before your trip. The following vaccinations are recommended: measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis, polio and influenza. Travellers might also consider the vaccinations for Hepatitis B and rabies, according to the specifics of their travel.

Travellers should be aware of the risks associated with travellers’ ailments such as diarrhoea. It is advisable to bring anti-diarrhoea medication and oral rehydration salts to prevent dehydration.

The emergency contact number for medical and ambulance in Guam is 911. There is only one civilian hospital, but a lot of private clinics are available. In the event of a serious medical problem, travellers may need to be evacuated by air to a facility which has more advanced technology and skilled personnel.

Pass

Guam is an External Territory of the United States of America and as such, passports are required for all foreign visitors except US citizens entering Guam from the US mainland or a US territory, provided they hold proof of citizenship and valid photo ID card.

Note: Under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (introduced 23 January 2007), US citizens returning directly from a US territory do not need to present a passport to re-enter the USA. All visitors must now hold a machine-readable passport (MRP).
