Kanada
Översikt
Canada is a generally safe destination, with limited factors to impinge upon traveller safety. Foreign nationals are most at risk from micro-security factors including low-level crime and climate. Petty crime such as bag-snatching, theft and pick-pocketing are the most common crimes encountered. Climate conditions, particularly the Canadian winter, can be disruptive. Severe snow storms also occur frequently, potentially affecting road, air and rail travel.
Hälsa, sjukdomar och vaccination
No special vaccinations/immunisations are required for travel to Canada. Make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines before your trip. The following vaccinations are recommended: measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis, polio and influenza.
Tap water is safe to drink in Canada.
Good medical care is widely available. The Canadian public health care system is run on a provincial basis and is funded by Canadian taxpayer money - tourists and temporary visitors do not qualify for this health care plan. Serious medical problems requiring hospitalization and medical evacuation to the United States can cost thousands of dollars. Doctors and hospitals often expect immediate cash payment for health services. Tourists and temporary visitors should have their own insurance to cover any medical expenses. Be aware that health care professionals in the province of Quebec might only speak French.
Pass
Passport valid for at least one day beyond the intended departure date from Canada required by all nationals except Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada with proof of status, persons entering from St Pierre & Miquelon or the US, who are legal permanent residents of the US and hold a US alien registration card (Green Card) and citizens of France who are residents of and entering from St Pierre & Miquelon.
Visum
Visa requirement varies between nationalities; therefore, all travellers are recommended to contact the Canadian High Commission to check visa requirements. UK, most EU and Australian nationals are not required to have a visa for stays of up to six months.
Since November 2016 travellers who are not required to obtain a visa for travel to Canada and who are arriving by air, with the exception of US citizens, must acquire an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before departure. Further information on how to apply for an ETA can be found here.
