Nauru is a low threat environment that poses no particular security concerns. However, the potential remains for widespread unrest linked to socio-economic issues. Environmental concerns may also disrupt travel on the island. With Nauru being a small island and the majority of the population inhabiting the coastline, storms have the potential to be devastating on human infrastructure.
Hälsa, sjukdomar och vaccination
Travellers are advised to consult a travel health specialist or general practitioner (GP) to obtain the latest information with regards to what vaccines are recommended about 4-8 weeks prior to departing for Nauru. Make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines before your trip. The following vaccinations are recommended: measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis, polio and influenza. Travellers might also consider the vaccinations for Hepatitis B and rabies, according to the specifics of their travel.
A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required from travellers coming from a country with risk of Yellow Fever transmission.
There is risk of ongoing Dengue transmission in Nauru. Travellers should take meticulous anti-mosquito bite measures at all times.
Typhoid fever vaccination is recommended when going outside the areas usually visited by tourists such as traveling extensively in the interior of the country, for persons on working assignments in remote areas, or travelers visiting for extended periods of time.
Medical services are extremely limited. It is advisable to purchase comprehensive medical insurance, although many doctors and hospitals will expect payment in cash regardless of this.
Pass
Passports are required for entry into Nauru. Passports must be valid up to 6 months from the date of entering the country.
Visum
With few exceptions all foreign citizens are required to apply for a visa before travelling to Nauru. Visitors must also have a return ticket as well as accommodation organised for the duration of the stay.
It should be noted that it is a lengthy process to obtain visas, with visitors required to bring a letter of confirmation and A$100 on arrival.
The Yellow Fever vaccination is required for all travellers arriving from an infected area in Africa or the Americas.
