The Kingdom of Tonga is an archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean, comprising 176 islands scattered over 700,000sq/km. Fifty-two of the islands are inhabited.

Travellers are advised to consult a travel health specialist or general practitioner (GP) to obtain the latest information with regards to what vaccines are recommended about 4-8 weeks prior to departing for Tonga. Make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines before your trip. The following vaccinations are recommended: measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis, polio and influenza. Travellers might also consider the vaccinations for Hepatitis B and rabies, according to the specifics of their travel.
Tonga has risk of ongoing Dengue and Chikungunya transmission. Risk is present throughout the country and year-round.
Additionally, there is risk of ongoing Zika virus transmission in Tonga. All travellers should take meticulous anti-mosquito bite measures during the daytime. Pregnant women and those considering becoming pregnant should avoid travel to the country.
Travellers should be aware of the risks associated with travellers’ ailments such as diarrhoea. Travellers must take all necessary precautions when drinking water or eating food within the country and only drink water from sealed bottles obtained from a reputable source or water that has been filtered and boiled.
It is advisable to bring anti-diarrhoea medication and oral rehydration salts to prevent dehydration.
Health care facilities are limited but adequate for routine problems in Tonga. Regardless of whether one has a travel health insurance or not, doctors and hospitals will typically expect payment in cash. It is wise for visitors to obtain a medical insurance and to make sure that it includes evacuation should this be necessary.

Travellers must have a valid passport for at least six months from the date of entry into Tonga.
Visum
Citizens from a number of countries including EU countries, Australia, Canada, United Kingdom and United States do not need a visa before arriving to Tonga provided the traveller is able to demonstrate sufficient funds for the duration of his stay and a valid return ticket.
