Trinidad and Tobago is a Republic consisting of two main islands, Trinidad and Tobago, as well as numerous smaller islands. It is located 11 km (6,8 miles) from Venezuela. It relies on tourism as well as oil exports. The country has recently experienced a rise in violent and gang-related gangs due to its strategic position for international drug trafficking networks.

Travellers are advised to consult a travel health specialist or general practitioner (GP) to obtain the latest information with regards to what vaccines are recommended about 4-8 weeks prior to departing for Trinidad and Tobago. Make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines before your trip. The following vaccinations are recommended: measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis, polio and influenza. Travellers might also consider the vaccinations for Hepatitis B and rabies, according to the specifics of their travel.

Trinidad and Tobago has confirmed recent cases of Dengue. Risk for transmission of other mosquito-borne diseases, including Chikungunya and Zika virus is also present. Travellers should take meticulous anti-mosquito bite measures during the daytime. Pregnant women and those considering becoming pregnant should avoid travel to the country.

A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required from travellers coming from a country with risk of Yellow Fever transmission. Vaccination is recommended for all travellers 9 months of age and older if going to forested areas on the island of Trinidad.

It is advisable to acquire a comprehensive travel health insurance before travelling. However, doctors and hospitals might expect payment in cash. Life-threatening medical problems may require air evacuation to a country with advanced medical facilities since medical care in Trinidad and Tobago can be limited.

Pass

Visitors to Trinidad and Tobago must be travelling on a passport that is valid for at least six months from the date of entry into the country.

Visum

Citizens of Canada, the EU, the UK, the US, Japan, South Korea do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days. Citizens of Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines are eligible for visa on arrival. 

If you do not seek admission to Trinidad and Tobago as a tourist or visitor you are required to be in possession of either a work permit, or a student permit, or a missionary permit or a minister’s permit.

Generally, all foreign nationals must be in possession of a valid return ticket to their country of residence or citizenship, and sufficient funds to maintain themselves whilst in the country.
